Coastal Eye Care and it’s cataract surgeons are offering an elective option of a multifocal intraocular lens in lieu of the traditional monofocal lens. These FDA approved lenses are designed with several different focal points within the lens that will target both distance and near vision. There are a variety of different lenses available that target different ranges of near and distance vision. The goal of these lenses is to decrease the patient’s dependency on glasses.
Until recently, patients with an astigmatism were not able to benefit from a multifocal lens. The lenses, known as TORIC, were only able to target astigmatism decreasing dependency on glass for distance vision alone but were not available in a multifocal intraocular lens format. Coastal Eye Care is now offering a TORIC multifocal lens that, in addition to correcting astigmatism, will also decrease patient’s dependency on glasses for all ranges of vision.
